HOW TO STOP YOUR DOG FROM PULLING ON THE LEASH (STEP BY STEP)
You go outside with your dog.
Two seconds pass, the leash tightens.
And you already know how that walk will end.
If your dog pulls you like a sled in the snow
it is not because he is stubborn.
It is because you have probably, without even realizing it,
taught him that pulling is NORMAL.
I know.
You think I am wrong.
But if you want change
you have to face the truth.
Your dog is not pulling to annoy you.
Your dog is pulling because it works for him.
And as long as it works
he will keep pulling you wherever he feels like going.
WHY DO DOGS PULL IN THE FIRST PLACE?
Before we fix the problem
we have to understand it.
Dogs pull because:
• they want to reach a smell, another dog, or a place faster
• they have excess energy
• they were never taught how to walk next to you
• every time they pull, they get where they want to go
In other words
pulling GETS RESULTS.
And what gets results
dogs repeat.
THE BIGGEST MISTAKE YOU ARE MAKING
He pulls
you pull back
He pulls again
you tighten the leash
And it goes in circles.
That is not a walk.
That is a tug of war.
And you know what?
Your dog often wins that game.
Why?
Because he is more persistent.
STEP 1: STOP MOVING WHEN HE PULLS
This is the turning point.
He pulls
you STOP.
You say nothing
you do not pull back
you do not get frustrated
You just stop.
Like a statue.
Your dog quickly realizes one thing:
pulling means no movement
And for the first time
it no longer works for him.
STEP 2: MOVE ONLY WHEN THE LEASH RELAXES
The moment the leash softens
you move forward.
That is the reward.
Not food
not a toy
movement.
Because that is what your dog actually wants in that moment.
STEP 3: CHANGE DIRECTION OFTEN
Is your dog charging forward like he has a plan?
Change direction.
Without warning.
Turn left
then right
then back
Let him start following you
instead of pulling you.
You lead the walk
not him.
STEP 4: REWARD THE RIGHT BEHAVIOR
When your dog walks next to you without pulling
that is the moment you must NOT ignore
You can use:
• a treat
• a quiet “good”
• gentle contact
But the reward must come at the right moment.
Not later.
Not when he starts pulling again.
Exactly when he is doing it right.
STEP 5: SHORT, CONTROLLED WALKS
Do not start with a long walk.
That is like expecting a child
to write a novel
before learning the alphabet.
Start with 5 to 10 minutes
in a calm environment
No chaos
no distractions
Only then increase the difficulty.
EQUIPMENT MATTERS (BUT IT IS NOT MAGIC)
Yes, good equipment helps.
But do not fool yourself
It is not about the leash
It is not about the collar
It is not about some magic gear
If your dog does not know the rule
he will pull even with the most expensive equipment.
HOW FAST WILL YOU SEE RESULTS?
It depends.
• on your consistency
• on your dog’s temperament
• on how long he has been pulling
But one thing is certain:
If you change the rules today
your dog will feel it tomorrow.
THE TRUTH MOST PEOPLE WILL NOT SAY
A dog that pulls
is not a problematic dog
It is a dog that has not been taught.
And that is where excuses end.
Because if you did not teach him
you can teach him.
IN THE END…
Imagine a walk without pulling.
No tension
no frustration
no struggle
Just you and your dog
in sync
That is not a luxury.
That is a skill.

I talk about what actually works
And what I would confidently use with my own dog.
